Camouflage creation with an airbrush…

I recently went looking to purchased airbrushing kits online to re-spray my paintball marker. I’m quite the paint ball enthusiast; I have all my own gear and play with a team of my friends on weekends. One of the most important tips is to blend in with your surroundings and make yourself as invisible as possible. There is less chance that you will get spotted by the opposing team and shot at, and more chance of you sneaking up on them!

So time to get creative with paints and upgrade my black marker to a new camouflage design! The kit contains a gravity fed airbrush, which connects to an airbrush compressor, acrylic paints and an A4 board pad. I chose an airbrush as opposed to painting it with as brush as the airbrush will give me a more blended effect, which looks more professional. I decided to paint it with the typical woodland camouflage design to match all my other gear.

First I had to carefully take apart the marker with an Allen key, ensuring i didn’t lose any of the small bits. Once it was finally apart, with all the screws and pieces to the side, I gently sanded off all the old flaky bits of paint. This should be done with a fine sandpaper, to avoid scratching. Before painting on my design i had to spray on a base coat of primer, this was the easy part as it is all one colour. Once i was done with the primer I rinsed off the nozzle. I found the nozzle cleaning kit rather handy for this, as mess was kept to a minimum. Next I added the olive paint, spraying the entire marker olive, as a background colour. Once the entire gun is sprayed, I clean the nozzle again. You have to keep the nozzle clean, so that it doesn’t get blocked, and to rinse out the previous colour. Next it’s onto the light brown; this is where you can really see the two paints blend and the final camo custom paintball gun coming together.

Next I move onto the darker brown patches, remembering to rinse and allow drying between coats. Lastly I put the final detail on with the black paint. As I look down at the bit and pieces of my paintball marker, I’m rather impressed, the finish is smooth and the patterns are blended very nicely!
